Art Class - Update I

Art - Group I✮

This group was using tones and patterns. We would draw a pattern, then paint it using tones.

"Citrus Dream" by Child 2

"A Citrus Dream" is, as suggested by the name, dreamy. There are no actual lemons or limes in it, but the colors, shapes, and texture make you think of these fruits. If you look closely, on the bottom-left I have signed my name.

"Golden Bubbles" by Child 1

Child 1's piece is full of different shapes, tones, and color. Triangles form squares, little circles form bigger circles, and it's all a geometric mash up of wonder. Great job, Child 1!!

"Checked" by Buster

"Checked" is simple, yet complex. Crayon lines border squares, hence, the simpleness. Yet each square is toned, shadows seeping out from the bottom, highlights shining on the tops. This gives it a realistic, 3d look. Nice work, Buster!

Art - Group II✮

This group is made up of 3d shapes such as cubes and cylinders. We could paint anything as long as it had a 3d shape in it.

"The Caesar Squares" by Buster

This is probably the most straight-forward 3d shape piece of this group. His squares, if you look closely, use a bit of tones. Each square has the same colors but on different sides, sort of like balance. Laurel wreaths swirl around them, hence, the name-- Caesar would wear a laurel wreath.

"Die of seasons" by Child 2

You probably spotted the 3d shape in this piece immediately-- the "die". This piece sort of tells you any season or weather could come any moment, determined by just the roll of a die.

"Candles in the Dark" by Child 1

"Candles in the Dark" is a quiet, peaceful scene. Five candles are the only thing lighting up the dark night around them, showing you how together they can resist the snow falling around them, each warmed by another's light. Have you found the 3d shapes? Yes, the candles are cylinders!

Art - Group III✮

This group and the groups after this we just picked any picture we wanted from the pictures on the table and got to work, our teacher helping us.

"The Cat" by Buster

Yet another plants-surrounding-object/animal painting by Buster! This one, however, instead of having laurel wreaths swirling in the void, seems to have plants sprouting from the ground. The cat is ADORABLE!!     ^•w•^

"Sunset Deer" by Child 2

The Sunset Deer gallops, chasing after his brother, the Sunrise Deer. He jumps over lakes with impossible strength, gallops through dewy grass. He comes to a hill to take a drink of the lake nearby, the glowing orb heavy on his antlers. He looks out at the fiery sky, filled with new strength, and continues his endless chase around the world.

"Walk in the country" by Child 1

A worn down fence, a pleasant breeze, colorful autumn leaves, this piece, like Child 1's last, is a peaceful scene. It uses soft brown and yellow colors, against a pale blue sky. 😊 Awesome work, Child 1!

Art - Group IV✮

This week our friend Isaac was visiting us. There were plenty of panda pictures, so Buster and I both painted pandas (which are Buster's new favorite animal).

"Sunset on Whisper Lake" by Isaac

This painting show a wonderfully lovely scene. A single boat drifting across the water, the setting sun and black mountains reflected in the water. Two figures ride in the boat together. I think "Sunset on Whisper Lake" is the perfect name for it.

"The panda" by Buster

"The panda" is a wonderfully realistic scene! It is focused on the panda and tree which she (Or he) is sitting on, so the leaves in the background are blurred into a watercolor blur (very artistic! ^.^) The panda is extremely cute, his (Or her) claws grasping the tree happily.

"Happy family" by Child 2

TA-DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! This is my favorite piece I have done so far. The panda most to the left is the father, the one most to the right is the mother. I use shading, tones, and careful attention for this work. It is abstract, purples and blues going together on the pandas' bodies. I am SO proud of this piece of art!!!! (>w<)

"Lush Forest" by Child 1

Yellows, greys, greens, blues, blacks... this forest reminds me of a rainforest (though I don't actually know what a rainforest looks like). It's dark and damp, golden light streaming through the leaves of the trees.

Art - Group V✮

This group Child 1 was sick, but our cousin Ezra was here to fill in for her. He's a great artist! Ezra and Buster both did goldfish. Ezra hasn't gotten back to me yet if he wants me to put his picture in this blog, but maybe he will soon.

"________" by Buster

Two curious goldfish, exploring the bottom of the sea. They peek through the seaweed and examine the rocks. "______" is a wonderful piece by Buster. The goldfish are cute and the seaweed is beautiful.

"Stroll through the fields" by Child 2

Thin trees reach upward, sprinkled with pink flowers and green leaves. They intertwine, twisting and sliding higher and higher. The fields are covered in dew, golden sunlight greeting them. The path goes on, a promise for a nice long stroll.

Art - Group VI✮

This group is not a week at art class-- it's a few days in my own house! I was inspired by our art class, and we bought some paints. I painted a few pictures at home, and I am glad to show them to you.

"Curious Calico" by Child 2

Here is the image I based it off of. I started with the eyes, then worked my way to the nose and mouth, finished the head, and worked down the body to the paws. Then I added some finishing touches, and finally filled in the background.

"Watercolor Dream" by Child 2

To do this I mixed lots of watery greens, blues, greys, purples, and pinks. Then I splotched patches of them all over my paper. Finally I mixed a deep blue and drew on the moon and the stars.

"Child 1 Specter" by Child 2

The marbley face of this specter in contrast to the scratchy clothes and hair makes you shiver. The purple hair is thick, scraggly, and tangled, hanging limp at the sides of the face. Magenta spots of WHO KNOWS WHAT are sprayed across her face and marbley nose.Wrinkles and creases show misery. If you look closely you notice something about this specter's eyes-- the one on the left is not hidden by the mess of hair but is simply not there. The specter wears a worn lavender shirt, and its plum skirt and hands seem to melt into the ground. Little dots float around it, perhaps snow? I have signed my name in the bottom-right.

Art - Group VII✮

Today we did "dandelion fun art". At the end of class it begun to thunderstorm quite noisily! When Mom and our friend's mom came to pick us up they were both drenched.

"I'll tell you later" by Buster

The dandelions are coated in raindrops as puddles form around their bases. A sun peeks out from around a tree, maybe it will make a rainbow. Drops of water reflect the sunlight and turn a wonderful butter color.

"Peaceful Meadow" by Child 1

The dandelions in this painting are standing in a peaceful green meadow, as the name suggests. Blotches of sunlight blur the sky, and a few seeds drift from the dandelions. The grass grows darker as it nears the ground, shaded by other grass, which I think Child 1 did a wonderful job on.

"Dandelions" by Child 2

This is a simple design. A gradient background, and a few seeds flying in the wind. I messed up a little bit on the dandelion stems, but it still looks good.

I look forward to art class every week. We have so much art we don't even have room for it on the walls any more! It's so fun to go about the house and study the art we've made so far. I feel much more understanding of how the art I see is made-- I'll see an art piece, and I'll picture myself running a brush down an empty canvas and making the lines the artist has made. Art may seem hard at first, but you can really get good if you practice. You should try it!
